You deserve a pat on the back for reaching the end of 2020.
It’s been a really rough year if not for all, for most of us. We’ve been forced to stay at home. I don’t want to relive the experience here. What I want to talk about are the things we managed to switch from negative into positive. Just like the habits you were able to develop while we were given a gift of time—a lot. Months of not working on our 9 to 5 jobs. Just a free time to spend on about anything. It was overwhelming, right? I was like, now that I have a lot of free time I don’t know what to do about it. It was scary knowing that in every tick of the clock it could be wasted on I don’t know. I don’t even have a plan.
It was a crazy time. Until I decided to get a hold of myself and started with one positive thing each day. First I started focusing on my plants. I already have a few collection before the pandemic. It was my stress reliever back then. Now, it became my anxiety reliever. I would walk around our village with my boyfriend every Saturday and would notice some cute plants, knock on my neighbor’s doors and ask if we could get a cutting of it. I’ve been getting my plants for free since the lockdowns started.
The next thing I did was to learn yoga and meditation. There are free applications that you can use. I’ve been using Yoga for Beginners, 7Mind Meditation and Calm. Then, I got this feeling of wanting to reconnect with our Maker so I’ve been listening to God’s word through Bo Sanchez and The Feast. They have been a big help to me coping with my anxieties for the last 7 months.
After I got the hang of doing yoga and meditation; and when I already made peace with myself I noticed the need to clean my room, and our entire house. It was a major cleaning job! It just became a regular organization task afterwards.
Even before the pandemic I am always learning new things. Always on the lookout for free online classes that would pique my interest. This past 8 months I have learned to use the software SketchUp through free tutorials on YouTube and enrolled myself in a free online Interior Design class via Shaw Academy. I was also able to create the renovation model for my mom’s and brother’s house. Right now, I am learning about digital marketing as well as investing. There are a lot of free good stuff online you just need to look for it.
Another good thing was I came across this site that I have been following about journaling because it was something I used to do for like 2 years ago so I kinda just started doing it again. It helps writing down my feelings and worries away it was also good for making plans. Then I noticed I have developed the habit of sticking to my own schedule. Now I just have to continue being disciplined about it.
The process wasn’t easy it wasn’t also a one day thing. It was an accumulation of every small effort I put into each day. How about you, what are the habits you developed this year?
Life is too short to wake up with regrets so love the people who treat you right, forgive the ones who don’t & believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it’d be easy they just promised it would be worth it. – Dr. Seuss
